Engine Displacement

In order to calculate the required flow rate (CFM), we need to know the engine displacement. Unfortunately many calculations / online calculators require the (CID) of your engine or your Cubic Inch Displacement to work. Use the following formula to work it out. We use litres and CC here in South Africa and United Kingdom so here goes! I.e. 1780 CC = 1.78 Liters.

  To get CC (Cubic Centimeters) * 1000

Formula for CFM (Calculating Air flow)

CFM = CID x RPM x VE / 3456

CID = Cubic Inch Displacement
RPM = Revs per minute
VE = Volumetric Efficiency (Most 4 cylinder DOHC engines are 85%) Modified engines can go to 95+ % efficiency.

RPM
VE   For 85% put 0.85 etc. 1 being 100%
